Home Year For Priests Plenary Indulgence

Plenary Indulgence

E-mail Print

The Vatican instructs that a plenary indulgence is being offered for all Priests and all faithful on the occasion of the Year for Priests. To celebrate this Year of Priests, you might want to consider the following:

  • Make a good Confession and pray for the intentions of the Pope. Attend Mass and offer prayers to "Jesus Christ, supreme and eternal Priest, for the priests of the Church, or perform any good work to sanctify and mould them to His heart.')

  • Attend the opening Mass at the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd - Friday, 19 June 2009 at 8pm. The Archbishop will unveil and bless a specially commissioned statue of St John Mary Vianney.

  • The statue of St John Mary Vianney will be brought to every parish for a week. Please note that this is not a devotion to St John Mary Vianney but this is to be a means of drawing your attention and inviting you to a deeper appreciation of the ministerial priesthood. Pray for the sanctification of our priests. Pray for all seminarians and for more priestly vocations.

  • Join the Holy Hour on the First Thursday of each month or on any other day established by the ordinaries of particular places for the good of the faithful.

  • Pray 5 times the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Glory Be, or any other duly approved prayer "in honour of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, to ask that priests maintain purity and sanctity of life."

  • The elderly, the sick, and all those who for any legitimate reason are unable to leave their homes may pray for the sanctification of priests and offer their sickness and suffering to God through Mary, Queen of the Apostles.

  • The 150th anniversary of the death of St John Mary Vianney is on Tuesday, 4 August 2009.

  • The closing of the Year of Priests is on Saturday, 19 June 2010 at the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd at 10.30am. The statue of St John Mary Vianney will then be handed over to St Francis Xavier Major Seminary.
