I would like to commend a few parishioners from Nativity Church. On 13 July, I was at Nativity for evening mass. There were 2 ladies who were not Catholic but went up to queue for the Eucharist. After they received the Eucharist they held it in their hand, unsure what to do with it.

One of the altar servers, upon noticing that the second lady did not consume the Eucharist, immediately approached her to retrieve the Eucharist and return it to the priest. Moments later, another parishioner also noticed that the first lady had not consumed the Eucharist and returned the Eucharist to the priest. Afterwards, the priest also announced a reminder that non-Catholics are not allowed to consume the Eucharist. I commend everyone for their alertness which upheld the reverence towards the Eucharist.

there was once a non catholic at the urge of his friend or relative went into the communion queue at Novena Church and thereafter receive the holy communion. However, he did not consume the host. Fr Vincent Low the then clelebrant, saw it and immediately question his catholic identity. True enough, he was not a catholic. Fortunately, he returned the host at the priest's request withouit any resistance.

After the mass, i spoke to tis guy and told him that holy communion is reserved for baptized catholics only. I told him to enroll at RCIA if he's interested to become a catholic.

i applaud Fr. Vincent Low alertness to stop the scandal and likewise every communion minister should do the same.

On the other hand, some catholics should stop the idea of having receiving communion only from the priest and not from communion minister. Not only this will hold up the communion line, but also holdup the mass much longer. We have to think for others too, not just for ourselves.

Baptised Catholics not in a state of mortal sin! =) I find that telling non-Catholics this extra detail helps them to understand that we're not being all uppity and exclusive here, it's to refrain from profaning the Eucharist and to avoid compounding our state of sin if we are in mortal sin - that it is for the good of their souls.

0 #3 Thoughtful Reminder Before CommunionTyrone Beiron 2010-09-14 16:00
In many overseas churches, including in Bali, where tourists and non-Catholic locals attend mass regularly, a slide (or announcement) is added before communion to remind all present that "only Catholics with the right disposition" should present themselves for communion. With RCIA, and the growing positive impact of the new evangelisation (on the Internet, modern media etc.) there are definitely more people attending Mass in our parishes who may not be formally introduced to the faith. These also include foreign nationals from China or elsewhere who are Christian but not Catholic and come to Mass for solace and prayer.

The Eucharist is indeed the Living presence of Christ in the Celebration of the Mass, weekly and daily! Sadly, sometimes for genuine reasons or ignorance or blatant irreverence / disrespect, the "Body and Blood of Christ" is toyed with as though it is some Haw Flakes, Made in China!

There was recently an incident at a parish in Western S'pore where the Lector after having comenced his rostered proclaimation on a weekly basis was found to be a Non Baptised Catholic who continuously went up and received the Holy Communion! However, it was then decided in the Ministry that those who wished to join and those who had already joined should produce a Baptismal Cert/Communion Cert/Confirmation Cert before joining the Ministry. It has been more than 3 years now and Ministry has not insisted on this document before joining.

My question being, is everything here the responsibility of the Priests in charge or can we too make changes to preserve the sanctitiy of our Religion?
