The page (right), launched in August, now has over 400 followers and the archdiocese hopes the numbers will continue to increase as more get to know about it.
The purpose of launching such a page “is to provide a ‘one-stop-shop’ where Facebook users across the archdiocese can connect and be updated on the various goings-on in the parishes and around the Catholic community”, says Ms Joan O’Reilly Fix, archdiocesan director of communications,
All parishes, Religious congregations, commissions and other Catholic organisations are invited to announce their events and share photos, videos and other information on their activities on the archdiocesan page.
“Through the sharing of information, we hope to build a solid online community within the archdiocese,” said Ms O’Reilly Fix.
The archdiocese invites Catholics and others interested in learning more about the Church to “like” the Archdiocese of Singapore on Facebook.
“Facebook is another tool for raising awareness of the good work that is being done within our archdiocese,” said Ms O’Reilly Fix. “We hope that the page will remain informational and useful to Catholics in Singapore while offering a valuable insight into our community for those outside Singapore.”
The page also offers an “official” source of archdiocese-related information.
Prior to its launch, several unauthorised Facebook pages and groups had been set up using the name of the Archdiocese of Singapore.
One archdiocesan Facebook friend noted: “With the official archdiocese Facebook page now in place, we have a place online where archdiocese-related events and information can be shared and relevant issues discussed. It will complement the already-informative archdiocese website.”
